Grand Mosque at Mecca, Saudi Arabia

Every Muslim's submission to the will of Allah is based on the 5 "pillars of Islam" as proclaimed by the Prophet Mohammed. The 5th and last pillar, the Al-Hajj, is the pilgrimage to Mecca and its holy places during Dhul Hijjah, the closing month of the Islamic year. The Haj is a worldwide gathering of the family of Islam in a devout and lengthy act of worship regardless of social status, wealth, nationality, or color. It is an open invitation to every Muslim with all rivalries forgotten and with full safety guaranteed for every pilgrim.

At least once in a lifetime, Muslims are expected to make the journey to Mecca. In fact, large numbers of Muslims from all over the world come to Mecca each year in performance of the Haj. Every year, pilgrims begin to arrive in Saudi Arabia about 2 months before the beginning of Dhul Hijjah. Saudi Arabia dedicates considerable resources, both human and financial, to enable these Muslims to perform their Haj in comfort and safety.

On this landmark project, dlb worked on the 36,000-ton central plant, which essentially air-conditioned an open aired space approximately the size of 6 football fields. The total construction cost of the mechanical engineering was $75,000,000.

This project was fast-tracked and completed in 12 months.
