Located on the corner of 8th Avenue and 42nd Street in midtown Manhattan, NY, Loews’ Flagship Theater features 13 screens and 3,500+ seats on three floors. A central concession stand is located within the third floor lobby.
Challenge
As the flagship theater for the company, Loews Theater at E-Walk was an extremely challenging project, demanding a heavy emphasis on the acoustics, lighting, aesthetics and the integration of the mechanical and electrical systems within that aesthetic.
Highlights
The exhaust ductwork was integrated within the architectural theme elements. Considerations included the coordination of the dual stacked auditoria, architectural theming, compounded with the many spatial restraints, stringent acoustical considerations, large occupancy driven ventilation and the unique requirements of the NYC Building Codes. The entrance and ticket lobby have many innovative solutions to maintain environmental conditions – accounting for the fact that doors to the outside may be continuously open during peak hours.
